Key Information

Your chosen Converter is responsible for checking that the vehicle ordered meets all the regulations for type approval. There are some exemptions, but these should always be checked against the latest regulations with the relevant Approval Authority.

The requirements of the final stage vehicle classification also need to be considered before ordering. For example:

If the final conversion of the vehicle has a reference mass greater than 2,840kg or a Bus M2, then a Heavy-Duty Truck (HDT) engine may need to be specified.
Vehicles converted to Passenger Car M1 are required to meet General Safety regulations, which include features such as a seat belt reminder system (Beltminder).

Body & Equipment Mounting Manual

If any change to the basic vehicle does not meet the guideline standards, it may severely inhibit the ability of the vehicle to perform its function.
The information contained within the publication takes the form of recommendations to be followed when vehicle modifications are undertaken.
It must be remembered that certain modifications may invalidate legal approvals, and application for re-certification may be necessary.
